Cardale Jones

Buffalo Bills

Tyrod will have to earn his $92 million

Rookie quarterback Cardale Jones drove the Bills 83 yards in the game’s final 1:08 completing a 4-yard touchdown pass to Jarrett Boykin as time ran out, but his two point conversion pass fell short and the Bills came up short against the Indianapolis Colts 19-18. Fresh off signing a 6-year, $92-million contract extension, quarterback Tyrod Taylor opened the game and played just one series. E-J Manuel and Jones split the remaining playing time.

Fantasy Goo: Cardale Jones completed 11-of-21 passes for 162 yards and a touchdown while earning a “thumbs-up” from me for passing the eyeball test for a 4th round rookie playing in his first preseason game. Tyrod Taylor should not have to worry about his job this season but, Cardale will keep Tyrod staying late after practice in the film room if he knows what is good for him. Cardale looked confident on his completed pass attempts and throw in 34 yards gained on the ground in limited game action and you have a splendid opening game for the rookie. Tyrod is going in the 10th round right now and the 15th QB selected.

E.J. Manuel

Buffalo Bills

Bills QB E.J. Manuel is a healthy scratch for Week 10.

Josh Johnson has officially surpassed E.J. Manuel on the depth chart. He is officially dead weight, and will most likely be released after his rookie contract expires, or in the off-season.

Troubles

A complete bust in the first half against the first team, and perfect against the second team defense, does not give chills of excitement to Manuel fantasy owners.

This is EJ Manuel as a quarterback. The Bills led the league in rushing, to avoid him throwing the ball. He tried to work on his completion rate in camp and in the off-season, but just does not look like he has that in him.

Avoid him if possible in your leagues, as his ADP indicates that he would be more valuable in the free-agency market, and could allow you to take a risk on somebody else.

Buffalo Bills

Manuel finally has a good practice

E.J has not looked good out of the gate, so this performance in a joint practice is encouraging. The Bills are a young team, and Manuel's development is the key to their success. Practice is one thing, but E.J. needs to show it when it matters. Those who were thinking this could be the year for Manuel to step up, I will count myself in this group, need to reevaluate that position. I still believe in the kid, but this is not the breakout fantasy year for him.

Buffalo Bills

Pre-season falter

E.J. Manuel is picked to be the starting quarterback for the long-haul, but when he gets outperformed easily by a back-up quarterback, it becomes a frustrating aspect for all those involved. It is still way to early to base what Manuel is capable of, but it is never to early to watch how the next few games unfold.

Keep Manuel where you have him on your tier sheet rankings, but dont be hesitant to drop him lower if he continues to perform as he did.

E.J. Manuel

Buffalo Bills

EJ work in progress

One of the biggest issues for Manuel was his completion percentage, which directly correlates to his field vision. In his rookie season Manuel’s completion percentage was a pedestrian 58.8 percent. Among NFL quarterbacks who played in at least 10 games in 2013 he ranked 23rd.

News from camp has E.J. Manuel striving to better himself in that area. "To aid Manuel in making more completions more often the offensive staff has tied the footwork of the quarterback position to that of the receiver routes. The link is expected to improve the timing and precision between the two ends of the passing game."

Offensive Coordinator Nathaniel Hackett stated that “We want everybody to know right where everybody is going to be every time and how we create that spacing across the field to create a more efficient passing game.”

Manuel only made 10 starts, but will need to make more clutch plays during the regular season. E.J. went on to say about his performance at the end of regulation time: “I think the biggest thing is taking what the defense gives you,” said Manuel. “If it’s not there throw it away and be smart, especially when you’re in the red zone and you’re working on special situations. There’s no reason to force it. As I grow as a quarterback with this team as well as the offense that we run I know better play will come.”

Manuel could become a solid quarterback for years to come, if he makes these strides to be a more fluid quarter back. He should be on the radar for all leagues, and definitely on the watch-list if he is not drafted in your leagues.

E.J. Manuel

Buffalo Bills

Bills solid with Manuel

This makes perfect sense to us, as Vick would not have been an answer for the Bills, rather only more questions. E.J. Manuel showed plenty of promise in his first season, and with the wealth of young talent around him the Bills are wise to stay the course.

The Bills are a team on the rise, and if they are able to add a solid draft class it may only be a year or two away from having a fantasy powerhouse at quarterback. The Bills have plenty of talent with Robert Woods and Marquise Goodwin at receiver, and Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller at running back to be able to make a splash in fantasy this season.

Manuel has the backing of the organization, and is the Bills franchise quarterback. He is also someone who has a good chance to be a major riser in fantasy football this season. Don't sleep on E.J.

E.J. Manuel

Buffalo Bills

Manuel has been cleared to play, but will he?

It is my belief that Manuel will be the starter for the Bills on Sunday. Manuel was showing nice development, in this his rookie season, before getting injured in week 5. E.J. is the future for the Bills, so they will want to make sure he is 100% before throwing him out there. Although, they would not have cut Matt Flynn if they did not expect him to play.

Robert Woods may not be able to go this week, but Manuel will get his first chance to throw some deep passes to fellow rookie, and speedster, Marquise Goodwin. It will be nice to see the rookie back out there.

E.J. Manuel

Buffalo Bills

Manuel still 4-6 weeks away

This news keeps the original timetable for Manuel’s return intact. It also means that Thad Lewis is going to get a few more chances. Even though the Bills signed Matt Flynn, are you kidding me, Lewis was leading the Bills first team at practice on Wednesday, even with his sprained foot.

The Bills offense will continue to be a run focused offense, which does not bode well for Stevie Johnson or Robert Woods. The only bright spot for an uptick in fantasy production in the passing game would come from Scott Chandler. Lewis is not worth adding to your roster, and that will be proven, as he will be on the run from the Dolphins defense this weekend.

E.J. Manuel has an LCL sprain

Manuel is going to most likely miss at least the next 4 weeks (maybe up to 8), as the Bills don't want to risk bringing him back early and risking further injury. It was a stupid play that he got injured on, as he was running down the sideline and did not need to stay in bounds to take the hit he did. When are these running quarterbacks going to learn that getting down or out of bounds and staying healthy is worth so much more than taking brutal hits.

E.J. Manuel to start week 1

E.J. Manuel has made a speedy recovery from his minor knee operation and will be ready to lead the Bills in week 1 against the Patriots.

Manuel is not a recommended starter this week, but the rookie was the best quarterback in the Bills camp this preseason and definitely has earned the starting job. Manuel has great arm strength and is a mobile quarterback, which will come in handy with the offensive line that still needs some work.

The fact that Manuel is playing is also good news for C.J. Spiller, as Manuel will help to keep pressure off of his running back by stretching the Patriots defense. Manuel is a player to keep an eye on as he progresses in his rookie season.

E.J. Manuel to have knee surgery

This is real tough news for Manuel, who had all but won the starting job for the Bills. Manuel looked great against the Vikings completing 10 of 12 passes for 92 yards with a touchdown.

Manuel has been the much more impressive quarterback throughout training camp and the preseason, and this is an unfortunate setback. The good news is that this is a minor procedure and Manuel might have a chance to make it back for the season opener, as the recovery time is 2-4 weeks. Once Manuel is healthy he will retake the starter job from Kevin Kolb.

Neither one of these quarterback is potential fantasy starter this season, but those in dynasty leagues have to like the early opportunity that Manuel is going to get. Regardless, Manuel should be the starter by the end of the season, but whoever is the starter is going to have an up and down season with more downs than ups.

Bills get E.J. Manuel under contract

Manuel, though unrefined for a first-round draft pick, has the skills to become the Bills quarterback of the future and will almost assuredly see at least a few starts this season, if not ALL of them.

After six years in the NFL, Kevin Kolb has yet to play in more than nine games in any one season.

E.J. Manuel is picked to be the starting quarterback for the long-haul, but when he gets outperformed easily by a back-up quarterback, it becomes a frustrating aspect for all those involved. E.J.

Manuel is not a recommended starter this week, but the rookie was the best quarterback in the Bills camp this preseason and definitely has earned the starting job. Manuel has great arm strength and is a mobile quarterback, which will come in handy with the offensive line that still needs some work.

Manuel has been the much more impressive quarterback throughout training camp and the preseason, and this is an unfortunate setback.

Manuel is going to most likely miss at least the next 4 weeks (maybe up to 8), as the Bills don't want to risk bringing him back early and risking further injury.

E.J. Manuel

Manuel, though unrefined for a first-round draft pick, has the skills to become the Bills quarterback of the future and will almost assuredly see at least a few starts this season, if not ALL of them.

After six years in the NFL, Kevin Kolb has yet to play in more than nine games in any one season.

E.J. Manuel

Buffalo Bills

Tyrod is out. The Bills do not want to risk getting him injured.

Fantasy goo: While the Bills want to see what their backup has, I am not inserting EJ into any DFS lineups.

E.J. Manuel
